Who's Who
Conductor/Music Director: Linda Hawkins
Linda Hawkins has been associated with the Georgian Bay Children's Choir since Sept. 1990 both as accompanist and conductor of the training choirs, and was a GBCC choir parent for nearly a decade. In 2001 she assumed conducting responsibility of all choirs within the GBCC program. Along with her current GBCC responsibilities, she teaches piano, rudiments, harmony, counterpoint and music history in her private studio. She is a member of ORMTA and volunteers with numerous community groups. Linda has received her music training through the Royal Conservatory of Music, Toronto, Canada.
As a director of church choirs and ensembles, she has co-written, directed and produced, with her husband John, three children’s musicals, including one for television. Other media work includes narration and production for radio and television.
Treasured and significant influences have been organ studies with Clifford Gates and piano studies with Arlene MacNay, as well as Doreen Rao Choral Music Experience. Linda lives in Owen Sound with her husband. They have three children.
Accompanist: Irene
Enns
Irene Enns joined us as accompanist in 2002. Irene achieved her Performer's
ARCT under the instruction of Shirley Hawkins in 2000. She is a member of
ORMTA and teaches a small class of private piano students in Owen Sound
while continuing to practise full time as a registered nurse.
Vocal Coach: Delaine Smith
Delaine Smith has been a chorister and soloist for many choirs beginning at the age of five. She has studied Voice with Jeanette Steeves and Soprano Leslie Fagan and Theatre Arts with Dr. Jeannette Duvall. Delaine won Top Vocal Scholarships at the Grey County Kiwanis Festival of Music in 1999, 2000 & 2001. She has performed with many musical groups, most notably the Georgian Bay Symphony, the Detroit Youth Orchestra and the John James Trio. In November 2002, Delaine was presented with the Silver Medal for Grade 10 Singing from RCM. In January 2004, she graduated from the RCM with her Performance A.R.C.T., achieving First Class Honours With Distiction. Her warmth and joy in music have delighted audiences from Dover to Detroit. Delaine is also an award-winning composer, focusing recently on her favourite choral group, The Georgian Bay Children’s Choir.
